Police use research to better help victims
from The Shorthorn
Only 9.2 percent of sexual assault survivors report their experience to police. New procedures outlined by the University of Texas System Campus Police plan to raise that percentage by building trust between police and survivors. UT System Campus Police and researchers from UT-Austin collaborated on a set of new, victim-centered guidelines for investigating reports of sexual assault. "The Blueprint for Campus Police: Responding to Sexual Assault" is a 170-page document providing guidance and training for officers handling assault cases.
