Feeling the trickle-down effects of Calgary's slumping economy, child-care operators are seeing an exodus of children from their centres as laid-off parents take their kids home. Directors and the associations that represent them say it's one of the first things parents do when they lose jobs — pull children out of daycare to save what can often be a big cost. And while for the first time in years daycare spots are more easily accessible, some child-care centres are now facing layoffs of their own.
