Columbia Public Schools officials praise new bus contractor, citing fewer complaints

Columbia Public Schools officials praised the district's new transportation contractor for a lower number of complaints than in previous years. The board has a five-year, $53.2 million contract with Student Transportation of America. This is the first year of the contract. Kirk Wilkie, vice president of operations for the company's central region, told the board that its operation for Columbia Public Schools includes 213 drivers, 34 bus monitors, six maintenance workers and nine office staff members. Student Transportation of America operates 195 routes.
