PCI-related Bleeding Rates a Performance Measure? Not So Fast
Use of radial-artery access and other bleeding-avoidance strategies failed to explain hospital-level variations in bleeding rates in an analysis of 2.4 million percutaneous coronary interventions. It found only a 1.26 percent reduction in variation in bleeding rates with radial-artery access, a 5.85 percent reduction with bivalirudin and a 0.88 percent reduction with use of vascular closure devices, after adjustment.
