Media article: Standardized-patient training is no cure for unnecessary image ordering
We are all very confident about what a well-written case coupled with well-trained SPs can accomplish in medical training. However, Dave Pearson reports in an issue of Health Imaging that sometimes using SPs may not produce the results desired. However, if you read in detail, you will see that the SPs did exactly what they were trained to do. It was the primary care residents who did not respond appropriately to established protocols about image ordering, a point made later in an opinion piece by two physicians.
