Chicago Public Schools tells principals to expect major cuts
from Chicago Tribune
A group of Chicago Public Schools principals received preliminary budgets that reflect massive spending cuts for the coming school year that the district said could have a major impact on classrooms. CPS, which did not release details of "preliminary draft" budgets distributed to 15 principals, said it was asking for feedback from school leaders about how to manage the cuts. The principals were told to expect a 39 percent reduction in the base amount schools get for each enrolled student.
