Bail-reform dead in state House
from The Connecticut Post
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy suffered a major legislative setback after Democratic leaders of the House of Representatives pulled the plug on his bail-reform initiative, which is now likely dead for the year. Speaker of the House Brendan Sharkey, D-Hamden, House Majority Leader Joe Aresimowicz, D-Berlin, and House Minority Leader Themis Klarides, R-Derby, agreed that there is wide support for the concept of allowing poor people facing minor criminal charges to get reduced or free bail.
