Judges: Jail crowding must be addressed

Housing inmates at the Nueces County Jail is expensive. At $81 per day, it costs more to put up one inmate for a month than some mortgages. As the jail struggles with crowding, judges called an emergency meeting to implement plans they hope will alleviate the capacity and costs. It's a multifaceted problem, said 117th District Judge Sandra Watts who crunched inmate numbers for the meeting.
