Illinois education secretary pushes for education budget
from The Register-Mail
The Illinois education secretary called on educators to contact their legislators to pass a standalone education funding bill. Secretary Beth Purvis spoke at Lombard Middle School as part of the first annual Whatever It Takes Conference, a three-day professional development conference with about 200 guests. "Call your elected officials on both sides of the aisle and say, 'Come to Springfield and vote on an education budget,' because there is a school funding proposal," Purvis said. While Illinois has been operating without a state budget, it did pass a standalone education budget last year. With the new fiscal year starting in two weeks on July 1, educators are worried this won't happen again.
