A look at new interactive tools to track hurricane threats

Officials described new interactive tools they hope will keep people safe during the current hurricane season and help the public find their way to safety when nature creates flooding conditions so dangerous that mass evacuation is the only option. The National Hurricane Center this season will be generating, for the first time, what Director Richard Knabb on Tuesday called a “potential storm surge map” available on the Internet that will allow residents to view a reliable estimate of how many feet of water could soon flood their neighborhood.
