Labor pledges to reopen Australian Emergency Management Institute in Mount Macedon*
from Herald Sun
Bendigo federal Labor MP Lisa Chesters has pledged to reopen the Australian Emergency Management Institute at Mount Macedon. An immediate injection on $1.5 million would be made to re-establish the institute which was closed last year, should Labor win government. Chesters, who jointly announced the commitment with federal Labor Emergency Services spokesman Mark Dreyfus, said the institute played a vital role in training emergency services professionals for more than 50 years, but local preparedness had been weakened by its relocation to Queensland.
