Fainting: Serious or not? New screening tool helps clinicians decide
from Medical News Today
Around 1-3 percent of visits to the emergency room are due to fainting. While most cases are not serious, some could be a symptom of a potentially life-threatening condition like arrhythmia, or heart rhythm disturbance, but there is no simple way for the emergency doctor to screen for it. Now, a new, nine-question screening tool promises to change this. The screening tool is the work of researchers at the Ottawa Hospital and the University of Ottawa in Canada, and a study of it is published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal.
