Traumatic brain injury has been defined by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke as "acquired brain injury caused by sudden trauma resulting in damage to brain tissue." Mild traumatic brain injury more commonly referred to as concussion, is the most common form of TBI, accounting for 75 percent of all traumatic brain injuries. Concussion affects patients of all ages, most commonly occurring as a result of falls, motor vehicle accidents, assaults and recreational activities.
