Shorter summer affects school bus projects

The shortened summer strikes again, this time at transportation and maintenance departments in local school divisions. With essentially two weeks less for projects and route planning — buses need to be up and running next week for "back to school nights" — Peggy Swartz, transportation director for Waynesboro City Schools, said the stress of getting everything done on time has never been greater. Dozens of important projects involving buses, purchasing and route planning take place during the summer when students aren't in need of transportation — with the exception of summer school.
