Across the nation, critical teacher shortages are causing districts to scramble to find qualified teachers in math, science, special education, bilingual education and other fields — with the most severe shortages in the highest need schools. At the same time, demand is growing for teachers who teach in more complex ways to an increasingly diverse student population. This forum will present new data on the extent and nature of current teacher shortages. It will launch a national conversation on the most effective ways to create a strong profession that attracts and retains a talented and diverse teaching force in every school and for all communities. Please join the Learning Policy Institute for a timely discussion of these issues with leaders from government, education, business, and parent and community organizations.
