'Liver in a Box' Could Be Game-Changer in Organ Transplant Process
A local company has created a high-tech upgrade for organ transplants, and doctors believe it could help save more lives as the use grows. The portable device, named OCS, or Organ Care System, is made by TransMedics in Andover. OCS doctors keep a donated liver operating and functioning just like it is in the body, rather than the traditional process of putting it on ice once it is removed.
