FEMA seeks comments by Oct. 21 on updates to floodplain management and protection of wetlands regulations

from IAEM

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is proposing to amend its regulations addressing floodplain management and protection of wetlands, in order to implement Executive Order 13690, which establishes the Federal Flood Risk Management Standard (FFRMS) to reduce the risk to Federal investments. FEMA is seeking input from all stakeholders regarding the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking and supplementary Policy 078-3 “Guidance for Implementing the Federal Flood Risk Management Standard. FEMA believes that fewer flooding-related fatalities, and less flooding-related property damage will occur if FEMA addresses current and future flood risk through improved standards. The FFRMS is a flexible framework to increase resilience against flooding and to help preserve the natural values of floodplains. View documents and background materials, and submit your comments in the Federal eRulemaking Portal at Docket ID FEMA-2015-0006, by Oct. 21, 2016. Questions should be directed to FEMA’s Intergovernmental Affairs Division at 202-646-3444 or FEMA-IGA@fema.dhs.gov. more
