Emergency alert texts are about to get more detailed
from Dallas Business Journal
The Federal Communications Commission voted recently to strengthen the Wireless Emergency Alerts system, which pushes warnings of missing children and natural disasters to cellphones. Government officials can now include up to 360 characters in an alert, up from 90. The new rules also require participating carriers to support embedded phone numbers and links. Due to the current limitations, alerts often refer people to consult local media for more details, which limits their usefulness.
