Hurricane Matthew peaked as a Category 5 hurricane (160 mph winds) on Oct. 1 in the Caribbean, according to The Weather Channel, striking Haiti as a Category 4, the Bahamas as a Category 3 and 4 hurricane, and finally the Southweastern U.S. as a Category 1 (75 mph winds). The hurricane has caused severe flooding, torrential rainfall, extreme property damage, and, tragically, hundreds of deaths. When people think of disasters they often recount the physical damages caused. However, disasters also cause significant spiritual, psychological, and emotional distress.
