Drewry sees brighter things ahead for box shipping
from Marine Log
Has the container shipping market bottomed out? Global shipping consultancy Drewry thinks so. It says that the Hanjin Shipping receivership marks the trough of the market. Its latest annual Container Forecaster and Review 2016/17 says that "despite continuing concerns of weak trade growth and fleet oversupply a gradual market recovery is now expected." Worse than expected second quarter financial results will be followed by a better second half-year, the report says. But Drewry still expects container carriers to record a collective operating loss of $5 billion this year.
