Is there a cure for workplace phone addiction?
There's a line from Walt Kelly's classic newspaper comic strip "Pogo" that applies as much today as it did when it first ran in 1971: "We have met the enemy, and he is us." That was a reference to our littering and general mistreatment of the planet on Earth Day, but I find in life, and in the workplace in particular, we humans tend to create many of our own problems. Take, for example, smartphones. These marvelous mobile devices have changed the way we work and given us boundless flexibility. They have also captured our minds and created endless distractions that draw our attention away from things that matter. A recent survey by CareerBuilder found 55 percent of employers blame mobile phones for decreased productivity.
