A Harris County sheriff's deputy is in the hospital after a pickup driver hit the driver's side of his patrol car near Crosby, in the northeast part of the county. About 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, a woman tried to enter the northbound lanes of a two-way street from the center turn lane, according to police. Her red Chevy pickup struck the deputy's marked cruiser traveling on FM 2100 (Crosby-Lynchburg Road).
The deputy's cruiser flipped over onto a grassy area along the road, according to Harris County sheriff's deputy Paul Begley. The impact crumpled the vehicle's windshield and mangled the driver's side door. The deputy was transported in stable condition to an area hospital with a possible broken leg. "They're still doing X-rays, but he's doing fine," Begley said of the injured deputy.
