More judges essential to fulfill promise of bail reform

A couple of years ago, in a remarkable show of cooperation between Gov. Chris Christie and the Democrat-controlled Legislature, New Jersey agreed to sweeping reforms of its antiquated bail system. The reform was triggered by both legislative action and voter approval. Now, on the eve of full implementation of that reform, the state needs more money and more judges to make the new system work the way it was envisioned.
