5. Bill would put NJ on the hook for roadwork shutdown costs

The state would be on the hook for any costs resulting from road projects stalled by the impasse over how to replenish the Transportation Trust Fund under a bill forwarded by an Assembly committee. The Assembly Transportation Committee voted 9-2 to advance the measure to a vote by the full Assembly. The bill would require the state Department of Transportation to reimburse counties and municipalities for any expenses incurred as a result of delays caused by Gov. Chris Christie's order to shut down most of those projects until a deal on financing the fund is resolved.
