Oscar's new Brooklyn clinic aims to bring 'Genius Bar' experience to healthcare

from Crain's New York

Startup insurer Oscar has opened its first members clinic, in downtown Brooklyn, in collaboration with Mount Sinai. The fourth-floor, 6,000-square-foot office includes five exam rooms, three consultation rooms, and a multipurpose room, where Oscar plans to offer classes in yoga and nutrition and specialized programs for diabetics and expectant mothers. Patients are met by a greeter when they walk into the practice, and they sign in with an iPad. They don't have to fill out their insurance information and medical history on a clipboard because all that information is already stored in the system. Dr. Harry Ritter, Oscar's vice president of care delivery, said the practice is designed to avoid the typical barriers that other practices put between staff and patients. more
