Holiday shipments boost logistics hiring in December
from The Wall Street Journal
Logistics companies increased their hiring again in December, finishing off the year by adding thousands of jobs to handle a surge in e-commerce shipments heading into the holidays. Transportation and warehousing companies added 14,700 jobs in the month, the U.S. Department of Labor said Friday, with nearly 80% of the new jobs at courier and messenger companies. Warehouse and storage companies added 1,600 jobs from November to December, ending a strong year in hiring led by a growth in online sales that has seen companies add distribution centers to push goods to consumers at a faster pace.
