Federal Tax Changes Likely to Drive State Competition

A Republican plan to change the way exports and imports are taxed federally could drive states to battle for manufacturing business with tax credits and incentives. "If you have a company that is looking to move manufacturing back to the U.S. because of the border adjustment tax," which may mean hundreds of jobs, "you can see why a state would want them to come," Mike Bernier, a senior manager of the national tax practice at Ernst & Young LLP, said during a Jan. 31 EY webinar about the state-side implications of potential federal tax changes.
