|FCEP communiqué on the passing of Dr. Salvatore Silvestri
As many of you have heard, our beloved friend Dr. Salvatore "Sal" Silvestri passed away Sunday evening after having suffered a cardiac arrest in his home. This is a sudden and devastating loss to his family, our Orlando Health Department, the Orlando community, and his colleagues throughout the emergency medicine and EMS communities statewide and nationally. Sal joined our faculty in 2000, and in 2004, he became program director. He thrived in this role and very quickly created an incredibly supportive, family like environment in which our residents flourished.
Sal's love for his family was epic, and we all became members of it. I do not believe I have ever known a more productive, passionate, and successful physician, educator, researcher, administrator and mentor, who at the same time was truly loved by everyone he came in contact with. He was a co-chair of the FCEP/FEMF Education & Academic Affairs Committee, a FEMF Board member and past member of FCEP's Board of Directors.
We will all miss him dearly and are committed to continuing his work in a way that would have made him proud. To continue honoring his memory, we are planning to establish an EMS research fund in his name through the Florida Emergency Medicine Foundation. Condolence messages may be sent to R-EMRES@orlandohealth.com. Messages will be given to the family.
