2 Nurses Contracted HepA via Organ Transplant Patient
from MedPage Today
Two home healthcare nurses tested positive for hepatitis A after taking care of a child with a multi-visceral organ transplant, researchers reported. Although transmission through organ transplantation has not been reported, genetically identical hepatitis A virus RNA sequences were extracted from two home health nurses, the organ donor, and the recipient. The nurses' only common exposure was the infected child, and infection most likely occurred though the fecal-oral route, reported Monique A. Foster, MD, of the CDC, and colleagues.
