Skyline students win award for bilingual multimedia project

from NABE

Never step on a snail. Never leave a red sock on a clothesline. Never walk on water. These rules and more, repeated in English and then Romanian, make up the winning video project of third-graders and twin brothers Timotei and Teofil Bostan from Skyline Elementary. Their project, which they created as second graders, won the 2017 Multimedia Student Contest sponsored by the National Association for Bilingual Education. The announcement was made during the 2017 NABE International Conference in Dallas, Feb. 23-25, 2017. The brothers came to the U.S. from Moldova as first-graders, and they speak English and Romanian. They based their video on "Rules of Summer," a book by Sean Tan. Timotei and Teofil created their own illustrations for the story and added effects digitally with the help of their ELL teacher, Jennifer Young. Skyline is one of 35 elementary schools in the Tacoma School District, Tacoma, Washington. Click here to watch their video. more
