New rules to get door and window tax credit for 2016 and 2017
IRS Form 5695, to be used by homeowners who buy new replacement windows and doors, allows a tax credit (better than a deduction because it's a direct reduction in taxes) for the purchase and installation of new windows. The new rule is that the windows must comply with Energy Star version 6.0. While the maximum credit remains at $200 for windows, qualified insulation of parts of the home also will effect a credit up to an additional $300. All that is required is a certification letter from the package supplier, and AWDI offers the qualifying letter to participants in their program and has been since 2005. AWDI's program has been updated for 2016-2017 to highlight the latest addition to their Door and Window Tax Credit Program so window dealers can offer the full $500 credit to their customers. There's still time for 2016.
