High school track: What to do when teams number in the hundreds
from The Columbus Dispatch
While Ohio's Olentangy Orange track coach Adam Walters oversees 262 athletes, an outfit roughly the size of three or four football teams, his situation is only somewhat unusual. Intra-district rival Olentangy Liberty has 290 track athletes. Many other Division I programs have 150 to 200. According to the National Federation of State High School Associations, 1.1 million boys and girls participate in track — second only to football. That figure in Ohio is 45,000 in Ohio and has been steadily growing.
