Cuyahoga County, Ohio, bail reform effort to get grant for jail population study: Justice for All
Local legal experts reviewing the prospects for bail reform in Cuyahoga County came to a conclusion earlier this year: They didn't have enough data to do their job. Specifically, they didn't know enough about the jail populations in Cuyahoga County to determine how well the system was working. That information will soon be forthcoming thanks to a $24,000 grant from the Gund Foundation that will pay the Pretrial Justice Institute of Maryland to review the populations of the Cuyahoga County Jail and at least three suburban jails. Two of the suburban jails are in Solon and North Royalton. A third has yet to be determined. It could be in either Maple Heights or Parma, or perhaps both, said John J. Russo, administrative and presiding judge of the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court.
