According to author Bill Rettew: I always get a kick out of crossing borders. I still take special notice half way across the Ben Franklin Bridge, going to New Jersey, though I've taken the trip at least a hundred times. So, it was a magical moment when I was able to sit on one of the stones placed along the Maryland/Pennsylvania border by surveyors Mason & Dixon. At mile marker Number One, on one side of the stone is a huge etched "P" and on the Maryland side is a big "M."
