Illinois legislators need to solve school funding now, not later
from The State Journal-Register
Here we go again. Today marks the start of a special session called by Gov. Bruce Rauner on the issue of school funding. Yes, a state budget passed at the start of the month, as legislators overrode the governor's veto. But there’s a catch — the measure appropriated money for the state's K-12 schools but didn't approve a funding mechanism by which to distribute it. No funding formula, no legal way to get the checks flowing to battered school systems that have already endured months of hardship as the state stiffed them of funding throughout the two-year long impasse.
