A recent Crain's report asked the question: Can jobs stop bullets? In my experience as CEO of Accion Chicago, a nonprofit lender focused on community development, the answer is yes. However, after working in underserved Chicago neighborhoods, we've learned that the best way to create jobs and wealth is not to rely on large employers to do so. Rather, the solution is to support the small business owners who are invested in their communities and who are ready to grow.
