Football Players Go 'Helmetless' for Safety
from Seacoast Online
The average amateur football player at the collegiate or high school level experiences 1,000 to 2,000 head "impacts" a season. This according to Dr. Erik Swartz, department chairman of the University of New Hampshire's athletic training program. Swartz has worked with the university's football team to develop a "helmetless" tackling program incorporating elements of rugby tackling in order to get players into the habit of "preserving" their heads when wrapping up an opponent on game day.
