2017 GMIS MEETS Conference Update

The 2017 GMIS MEETS conference was a huge success! Many thanks to SHI, our Annual Conference Sponsor, for their continued support of GMIS MEETS.

Hilton Head provided the perfect venue, with a fantastic resort for our conference. The conference kicked off on Sunday, August 20, with a pre-conference training provided by StarNet Solutions followed by our opening President's Reception sponsored by MRA International.

Monday morning started with an outstanding keynote from Manley Feinberg on "Reaching Your Next Summit"! Everyone left feeling challenged and motivated to lead with impact as we return back to our agencies. Throughout the week, we attended educational breakout sessions on a variety of topics, including Social Media; Trends, Threats and Evolving Security Controls; Hyperconvergence; Ransomware and Modern DR Strategies; Mobile First Government, and many more!

We closed out Monday with our Beachside BBQ! We did have to move the BBQ inside due to the threat of rain, but a great time was had by all. Thank you to GMIS member Brian Conley for providing the evening's acoustic guitar entertainment!

Tuesday morning, we had a great "Around the Horn" session moderated by Dr. Shannon Tufts from the UNC School of Government. This year's discussion focused on Authentication, Encryption, and Information Assurance — Navigating the Turbulent Waters of Security. We want to thank all of our panelists for the engaging discussion: Darren Carroll, Justin Heyman, Chuck Horton and Eugene Kipniss.

On Tuesday, we also had the opportunity to network with industry-leading vendors during breakfast and lunch. Thank you to all of our exhibitors and sponsors for their support of GMIS!

On Wednesday, we were honored to have Cynthia Storer present a keynote on Finding al-Qaeda. Very interesting story!

We also enjoyed the sun and sand during a fun team-building beach tournament sponsored by SeamlessGov. What a great time as we all gathered on the beach in teams to play cornhole. Congrats to the winning team, the Corny Coders!

We closed GMIS MEETS 2017 with a Casino Night sponsored by Diamond sponsor SHI! A perfect ending to a fantastic conference.

I have heard great feedback and enjoyed seeing all of our GMIS family in Hilton Head! I hope to see all of you next year in St. Louis — August 19–22, 2018.
