Self-driving vehicle testing is about to speed up
from Detroit Free Press
U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao announced updated guidelines in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Sept. 12 to eliminate waiting periods for the testing and deployment of self-driving cars and to avoid a "patchwork" of state rules. Critics, however, said the administration had "caved" to industry pressure. Federal transportation officials said the guidelines build on the 2016 Federal Automated Vehicles Policy, which they replace, as well as feedback from the public and Congressional hearings.
