Improvements in the prevention and clinical management of patients at risk for carotid disease have contributed to a decline in carotid revascularization procedures, according to a nationwide study that reviewed 16 years of Medicare beneficiary data. The data also show improvement in outcomes of revascularization surgery. "The results were not surprising and confirm what we suspected," Dr Judith Lichtman (Yale School of Public Health, New Haven, CT), told theheart.org | Medscape Cardiology.
