The impact of new topical antifungals on onychomycosis management

from Podiatry Today

Onychomycosis is a superficial fungal infection of the nails leading to discoloration, nail plate thickening and onycholysis. It is a very common disease in both podiatric and dermatological practices, accounting for more than 90 percent of toenail infections and at least 50 percent of fingernail infections. Onychomycosis occurs more often in our elderly patients. It occurs in 10 percent of the general population, 20 percent of individuals 60 years of age and older, and 50 percent of those over 70 years of age. more
