Coast Guard warning against adrift vessels
from Kitsap Sun
Unmanned, adrift vessels like the dinghy become a bigger problem for the Coast Guard as the seasonal change brings big winter storms to the Pacific Northwest. Kayaks and canoes moored in the water or stored close to shore can be pulled out into Puget Sound by a storm's high tide or by a strong gust of wind. They drift around "aimlessly until someone reports them," said Coast Guard 13th District Spokesman Lt. Dana Warr.
