from New York Post
When Mike Pereira, rules analyst at Fox Sports, drove from his house in Sacramento, California, three summers ago to visit a friend in Bend, Oregon, he had an epiphany. The former vice president of officiating in the National Football League has a ritual during this journey. "Once I get past Sacramento airport, I turn off the radio so I have no sound for [more than] six hours. I cleanse my mind," he says. Using the time to contemplate challenges, he started thinking about a referee shortage at youth and high-school levels. Then another thought emerged: What about hiring veterans?
