The Senate brought the Affordable Care Act into the tax reform debate, by introducing a repeal of the individual mandate. In fact, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady has said that the committee will soon move to address healthcare, now that it’s cleared the decks of tax reform. To that end, today, we wrote the House and Senate committees of jurisdiction requesting that they fix Health Savings Accounts (HSA’s).

Simple fixes such as greater flexibility to offer first-dollar coverage of health services at an onsite employee clinic and retail health clinic, correcting the definition of “dependents” to include adult children, domestic partners, and non-traditional dependents and creating greater flexibility to offer first-dollar coverage of services and medications for chronic disease prevention. As our letter states, “as representatives excited about the gains employers have made to enhance coverage for their employees, we see the promise of these proposed changes first-hand. The workplace has been a continuous source of innovation as benefits and coverage policies adapt to new delivery models while promoting better health practices and containing costs.” See our letters here and here. more
