Chicago VC deals top $1B for first time since 2000

Venture-capital investments in Chicago topped $1 billion for the first time since the peak of the tech boom in 2000, according to Dow Jones VentureSource. Chicago-area companies took in $1.53 billion last year, up from $953 million in 2016. The record was set in 2000, when $1.81 billion was raised. Last year's biggest deal came from Outcome Health, which raised $487 million in the second quarter.
