EPA overturns approval of Ohio's decision to omit its Lake Erie from 'impaired' waters list
from The Plain Dealer
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency withdrew its approval of Ohio's decision to keep Lake Erie off a list of impaired bodies of water, which rankled environmentalists who pointed to harmful algal blooms contained within the lake. The U.S. EPA's reversal of its May decision was memorialized in a letter sent Jan. 19 to Ohio EPA Director Craig Butler and filed in federal court by the Environmental Law & Policy Center. The organization is suing the U.S. EPA over its initial approval Ohio's biennial impaired waters list.
