Funds for buses causing stress for regional schools
from Sentinel & Enterprise
As local regional school district officials and school committee members begin the early talks for the fiscal 2019 school budget, district business administrator Julie Suprenant is not optimistic about the state helping pay the full amount of bussing costs. "They've never budgeted it, as far as I know it's never been put in the budget," the Ashburham-Westminster Regional School District official said. "I don't even know if they've ever attempted to." State laws passed in 1949 require Massachusetts to fully fund transportation costs for regional students, but, according to the state auditor's office, it's been more than 15 years since regional districts saw 100 percent reimbursement.
