Race for Straus' seat gives conservative voters wide range of options
from Houston Chronicle
Last year, Straus found himself at the center of the Texas GOP's infighting, centered on a so-called "bathroom bill." A similar dynamic emerged in this race. Even before Gov. Greg Abbott in January unveiled his plan to cap local property tax revenue growth at 2.5 percent, the complex issue had drawn the attention of the six Republican candidates — Steve Allison, Matt Beebe, Carlton Soules, Adrian Spears, Charlotte Williamson and Whyte — running for retiring Speaker Joe Straus' seat in north Bexar County.
