'Game-changing' antibiotic can kill off superbugs
from Medical News Today
A new study, published in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, offers the first proof that a new synthetic form of the antibiotic teixobactin can neutralize drug-resistant bacteria. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say that antibiotic resistance is "one of the world's most pressing public health problems." In the United States alone, 2 million people are believed to become infected by drug-resistant bacteria per year, and more than 23,000 U.S. individuals die as a result.
