The skills gap: Real or monopsony?

In case you haven't heard, there's a skills gap in the United States. That has become common rhetoric over the past few years and seems to be the refrain on business pages across the country. The flames were fueled by recent reports that U.S. job openings set a record high in January of this year. But, as with most coins, there's a flip side. Some maintain the skills gap is an exaggeration perpetuated by whiny employers unwilling to pay for the help they need.
